Second USDA Foods Order/Survey for School Year 2012-13

DPI was recently notified by USDA that the 12 percent minimum Federal assistance requirement was not met for SY 2012-13. To offset this shortfall, USDA is allowing states to spend additional SY 2012-13 entitlement dollars. Therefore, a second order/survey is scheduled for September 17, 2012 through September 27, 2012. All SFAs who want to receive additional USDA Foods during the SY 2012-13 MUST place this second order by September 27, 2012.

USDA Update Regarding Lean Finely Textured Beef (LFTB)

In response to requests from school districts across the country, the USDA announced on March 15, 2012 that it will offer more choices to schools in the National School Lunch Program when it comes to purchases of ground beef products. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) takes the health and safety of our students very seriously. Therefore, based on this USDA announcement, DPI has made the decision to only order USDA Foods beef products without LFTB, effective for the 2012-13 School Year.

First Three Months of SY 2013-14 Fruits and Vegetables Ordering Period: Feb 15 - 27, 2012.

USDA is continuing to experience difficulties with the purchasing of canned and frozen fruits and vegetables. Fruit and vegetable vendors will no longer produce and pack products without an advanced contract and guaranteed volume. USDA is requiring states to place fruit and vegetable orders for the first several months of SY 2013-14 by the beginning of March 2012. Therefore, a Wisconsin USDA Foods Order (Survey) #1 will be available in Program Year 2014 from Feb 15 - 27, 2012.
